ON: MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE GHOST PROTOCOL (2011)

I had a routine Mission Impossible marathon and I thought I’d do a review of my bae Ghost Protocol. Expect a post on Rogue Nation soon!

Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol is the fourth installment in Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible action spy franchise. It is directed by Brad Bird, famous for his animated films, and written by the co-writing team Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec. Tom Cruise reprises his role as IMF agent Ethan Hunt, alongside Simon Pegg, Ethan Hunt, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton and Michael Nyqvist.

In M:I4, The IMF has now been shut down and Ghost Protocol is initiated – Ethan Hunt and his rogue team are now the only obstacle between the deadly terrorist Hendricks and a nuclear war.

ON: SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS (2011)

Sherlock Homes: A Game of Shadows is the sequel to the first Sherlock Holmes movie (2009) based on Arthur Conan Doyle’s books, featuring Guy Ritchie as the director and a cast including Robert Downey Jr, Jude Law, Rachel McAdams, Noomi Rapace and Jared Harris.

In A Game of Shadows, Sherly and his trusty sidekick Watson join forces with a gypsy to bring down the cunning Professor Moriarty and his plot to instigate a world war that will change the course of history.

Pre-movie thoughts:

  • As you know, I actually quite like Guy Ritchie as a director (I am rather a style vs substance gal) and the last Sherlock was fantastic. But how will a sequel *gasp* stand up to the test?
  • The newbies on the cast looks pretty great. I’m a fan of Jared Harris, and Noomi Rapace has proven herself a very capable actress in other films.

ON: STEVE JOBS (2015)

Steve Jobs is another biographical drama about the infamous Apple co-founder, directed by Danny Boyle and written by Aaron Sorkins i.e. one of the best screenwriters breathing today. It stars Michael Fassbender as the titular character and  Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jeff Daniels and Katherine Waterson in supporting.

The story unfolds right before three iconic Apple product launches (1984, 1988 and 1998) to portray the life of the co-founder. I don’t want to say much else about this, because I barely knew anything about this movie going in and I want you to have the same experience!

Pre-movie thoughts:

  • Danny Boyle is most famous for 127 Hours, which I found quite impressive, but some of his other movies have been a little (shoulder wiggle). Let’s hope he delivers.
  • I really love biopics, but the last Steve Jobs movie we had was Jobs. With Ashton Kutcher. Yeah… no pressure!
  • This cast looks sweeeet. Michael Fassbender and Kate Winslet are pretty much an acting masterclasses. I really liked Michael Stuhlbarg in MIB:3 as well, and Seth Rogen is really underrated in dramas, so that will be interesting…
  • Need I say anything about Aaron Sorkins? He’s one of my favourite screenwriters, and I love reading his scripts after I watch the movie. The Social Network was a masterpiece. Get ready for Sorkin-porn!

ON: NOW YOU SEE ME 2 (2015)

Now You See Me 2 is the sequel to Now You See Me, which I reviewed last time (LINKKKKKKKKKKK). It’s a heist-thriller-I-guess as well and is again directed by Louis Leterrier. The ensemble cast returns, with newbies including Daniel Ladcliffe and Lizzy Caplan replacing Isla Fisher.

The movie is set one year after the events of the first film. The Four Horsemen stage a comeback performance to expose a tech magnet, but they are then forced into pulling off an impossible heist.

Pre-movie thoughts:

  • This got 33% on RT. And the first one got 50%. *braces self*
  • I gave the last one a C+. It was ridiculous and impossible, but watchable. And sequels are notorious for being pretty darn awful. Will this live up to the (admittedly low) standards the first movie set?
  • I’m a massive Harry Potter nerd, and it’s nice seeing Daniel Radcliffe in something that’s not obscure Broadway.
  • Lizzy Caplan is replacing Isla Fisher’s character. Because Isla Fisher is pregnant. Interestaaang… I’ve only ever seen her in Mean Girls, so this could go definitely go both ways! 😀
